PILE DYNAMIC TESTING USING CROSS-HOLE ANALYZER
The Cross-Hole Analyzer (CHA) is an instrument used to evaluate the homogeneity and quality of the concrete of bored piles, drilled shafts, concrete piles or augercast piles. However, this method can also be used to evaluate diaphragm walls, barrettes, dams etc. In this test method, all the above will be designated “deep foundation elements.”
CHA helps to verify any possibility of mud near the pile toe and poor concrete quality in a specific location. The test result can be used as consideration to any further concrete improvement i.e. grouting.
The instrument utilizes the Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) method. The test basically measures the propagation time and relative energy of an ultrasonic pulse between parallel access tubes (crosshole) or in a single tube (single hole) installed in the deep foundation element. The access tubes will be installed before the casting process while the test itself is conducted after the concrete set-up period.
