PILE DYNAMIC TESTING USING PILE INTEGRITY TESTER (PIT)


During installation, driven piles may be damaged due to high stresses. Bored or in-situ shafts may suffer from separation of concrete, necking, inclusion, voids, etc. After installation, pile shaft may be damaged by large lateral movement due to lateral impact, heavy equipment, or slope or retaining wall failures.

It is impractical to statPIT 3ically test each pile. However, integrity testing using the low strain impact method (non-destructive) can quickly evaluate the shaft condition of large number of piles at a reasonable cost.

Pile dynamic testing using the Pile Integrity Tester (PIT) is performed with a small impact device (hammer) and reflections from either the pile toe or from pile discontinuities (cracks, change of cross section, etc) are analyzed to determine the pile structural integrity.
